Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) founder Bill Gates said he hopes to propose a global cooperation initiative to mitigate risks posed by AI when meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year. He believes that if the US takes the lead, China may agree to restrict the release of potentially risky AI models.
A spokesperson for Gates said efforts are underway to finalize details of the meeting with Xi, tentatively scheduled for November. Gates said he hopes to propose that countries monitor AI's capability to create molecules and conduct biological attacks.
He also mentioned that China is protecting children from addiction to AI companions, adding that few global leaders are willing to take responsibility for preventing a series of potential AI risks.
